LITERACY COUNCIL PROGRAMS

We provide adult education services in Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis parishes. Services include adult basic education, high school equivalency diploma preparation, college transition, and career exploration. We also provide help with computer or digital literacy as well as financial literacy.

OUR PROGRAMS
ADULT EDUCATION
Adult Students

Literacy changes lives and so do our classes.  Instruction for adults is available in reading, writing, and mathematics.  Classes are available both in-person and online. 

HISET PREP
Teacher Helping Student

In Louisiana, adults can earn a high school diploma by passing the HiSET exam.   Courses cover all test topics-- reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science.

LIFE SKILLS
Office Work

Life Skills are important for handling everyday responsibilities.  Workshop topics include time management; financial literacy; self care; and motivation & perseverance.

COMPUTERS & THE INTERNET
Colleagues Working in Office

Technology is a part of our daily lives.  It can keep us connected and help us access resources.  We teach basic computer literacy skills and internet responsibility and safety.

COLLEGE & CAREERS
College Students in Classroom

7 out of 10 of today's jobs require specific training or at a minimum an associate's degree.  We offer college and career readiness resources and training for adults ages 18 and older.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
Books

ESL is a language program for non-native English speakers.  We focus on speaking and listening and teach grammar, reading, comprehension, writing, and vocabulary.

 Literacy Council is following LA Department of Health guidelines for public gatherings. 

People who are not fully vaccinated are encouraged to wear masks at all gatherings. 

Those arriving for new student testing at the main office should wear a mask.
