| What are the qualifications? |
One-to-One Tutoring:
- one-year time commitment
- completion of 8 hours of training
- availability to meet one-to-one with a student for 3 hours each week or minimum of 10-12 hours per month
- will meet at public sites throughout area
- filing of a monthly report on student attendance and progress
Tutoring Within the Classroom Structure: This volunteer position provides more flexibility for the volunteer and carries less responsibility since the volunteer does not have to spend time preparing for weekly tutoring sessions. The volunteer can select any two hour block within the Learning Center class times and can volunteer as little as two times per month, allowing the volunteer more flexibility in scheduling.
- minimum of 2 hours per week
- semester long time commitment
- completion of six hour workshop
- works under the specific direction of the teacher at the Learning Center
- completion of an written summary at the end of each session
Family Literacy: Prospective volunteers will work with children during the six week Prime Time library program or during the periodic Reading is Fundamental parental workshop sessions. Volunteers are also needed to read to children at the Council's ongoing pediatric literacy program at Kid Med clinic of Children's Clinic of Southwest Louisiana.
- 1-2 hour per week placement
- assignment can be short term and tailored to individual need
- must complete orientation and training
- volunteer opportunities at clinics, libraries, and day care centers throughout area
